The Founding Year When Zunftmeister Conrad Bavier opened the inherited family house as an inn, with the shield of the three kings.
A Living Chronicle

A living part of Chur's history.

The hotel has existed in this building since 1793. Recorded in the National Archives: Mr. Zunftmeister Conrad Bavier established the inherited house as an inn, and gave it the shield with the three kings. The Schällibaum family ran the house for over three generations, until we bought it in 2005. Since then, we have continued to operate it in the same building, in the same old town, with the same name above the door.

Inside the walls there are details most guests never notice: the oldest preserved hotel room in Chur, a banquet hall that has been alternately part of an abbey and part of the seat of government, and — according to local legend — an underground passage that once connected the bishop's seat to our basement.

Inside the Building

Rooms with their own histories.

Long before our time, the rooms of this house carried other lives. This building once served as a relay station for the postal service, and later as a set used in the filming of Jürg Jenatsch. The "Drei König" banquet hall has been, by turns, part of a monastery and part of the seat of government.

The first health insurance scheme for the forestry workers of Grisons was drafted under this roof. And somewhere in the building — depending on which corridor you take — sits what is recorded as the oldest preserved hotel room in Chur.
